Northeast Ohio Literacy Corps

This AmeriCorps program places 24 full- and part-time AmeriCorps members at organizations in Cuyahoga County providing literacy services. Meagen coordinates the training calendar, including facilitating trainings on education, volunteer coordination, and Civic Reflection. She developed the Lasting Positive Impact Project, which is a year-long process for members to reflect on their service, develop leadership and self-management skills, and make a lasting contribution at their host sites.

“Meagen is an organized and thorough literacy trainer. She adapts to our needs, has a wide range of resources, and provides a wealth of information. Meagen’s trainings are interactive, empowering, and targeted to our organization’s varied needs. She is dependable, consistently exceeds our expectations, and is an overall pleasure to work with.” -Andrea Sprockett, Program Director

Cleveland State University: America Reads

Every year, approximately 75 CSU students tutor in libraries around Cuyahoga County to provide homework help and enrichment activities to increase literacy skills. Meagen facilitates an introductory literacy workshop that provides inspiration and concrete strategies for tutoring children.

“We’ve never gotten a ‘Woohoo!’ for a trainer before! You are definitely coming back.” -Anita A. Young, Program Coordinator

Wow! This is so exciting! I was part of a Literacy Americorps team in New Orleans (2009-2010), and it was a truly rewarding experience. The Americorps program has really made a difference in the literacy community there. Just what Cleveland needs to get a jump start!
